Group sessions

Group classes are a useful introduction to the techniques and are held throughout the year in various locations in London. Additional courses can be arranged on request.

Classes typically last one to two hours and are held in the evenings in Richmond (RACC) and Harley street, and on Sunday afternoons at Pilates Plus in East Twickenham.

Courses will run for 5 weeks or longer.

There will be a maximum of 15 people at RACC and 6-8 people at the other studios.

Content

During a typical group course, we will:

  • Explore the importance of the thinking process on the mechanics of the organism;
  • Through gentle exercise, rediscover the importance of our neck - head - back relationship, the primary control of the body;
  • Learn how breathing should initiate movement;
  • Find the beauty in extension of the extremities of the limbs;
  • Find the power of growing taller - use of the Alexander Technique can add up to 1.5 inches of height as the spine elongates and we learn how to work with gravity;
  • Discover the energising effect of expansion of the lungs;
  • Enjoy the meaning of stillness in order to have a poised presence;
  • And most importantly, gain a sense of freedom in our postural behaviour.

Other aspects of the Alexander Technique, Shiatsu massage and Time Therapy will be brought into the lessons as appropriate.
