Qualifications and Style
Giorgina is a fully qualified teacher of the Alexander Technique, Shiatsu Massage, and Time Therapy. She has been a member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) since 1991, qualifying as a certified professional in 1995, and in 1997 achieved MRSS certification of professional competence in Shiatsu in the UK. In 2002 she gained her accreditation in Time Therapy from the Tune In institute in Zurich.
Believing that different individuals require and respond to different forms of support, Giorgina not only utilises the principles of these formal modalities, but bases lessons on her own unique combination of studies bridging modern science, anatomy, neurology and the bio-mechanics of the self. Her passion for evolution in her understanding of life continues to grow, deepening her developmental studies with some of the masters of modern meditation, yoga, movement and psychology as well as overtone chanting. Giorgina embraces her personal creative process through the rhythm and spiralling flow of her own dancing; her wish to facilitate movement with global integrity. She blends these skills to provide support and facilitate the individual's process not only at the physical level, but also at the emotional and spiritual levels, helping students to perceive the energetic balance necessary for building confidence, enhancing self-esteem and instilling a belief in the self leading to personal empowerment.
Giorgina firmly believes in a process of continuous professional and personal development. In addition to her studies above, following City & Guilds certification in Further Education Teaching in 2007 she became a member of the Institute for Learning in London, an independent professional body supporting excellence in further education and training. She is currently conducting professional research movement classes with Independent Dance at the Siobhan Davies Dance Studios and since 2008 she has enjoyed teaching the Alexander technique to various music and drama colleges in London, in particular Art.Ed in West London.
Origins and Values
Before her teaching career, Giorgina traveled and studied around the world. Hailing from the north-western Alps of Italy, her passion for life and a fascination with language and diversity of culture led her first to journey around Europe and then further afield, living for a while in West Africa and then South America. In her travels Giorgina often saw and felt the pain of the oppressed and disadvantaged in society; sights which made a profound impression upon her: "I was having difficulty expressing my concern for the inequalities to which I was bearing witness. It was then that an urge to work towards empowerment of the individual, independent of cultural background, became my only way forward."
A journey through Asia ensued, with Giorgina discovering the philosophies of traditional Chinese medicine, yoga and meditation that now influence a calm and practical teaching style.
Returning to London, Giorgina took up her formal studies of the Alexander Technique and Shiatsu massage, eventually founding her practice on the three key values of providing healing, supportive and ethical treatments.
Professional and Voluntary Work
For the past eighteen years, Giorgina has used her unique blend of skills and experience to work with people from all walks of life, to help them improve their health and well-being, their breathing, energy levels and freedom of movement. By building an understanding and awareness of their body, she has been able to assist actors, dancers, singers, musicians and athletes to raise their performance levels, recover from injury and correct ingrained and inhibiting body movement patterns.
She has dedicated a significant proportion of her career to charity and voluntary work, helping the homeless and addicts recover from substance-abuse, people with mental health difficulties, those recovering from serious disease, the terminally ill and people suffering from and affected by cancer at the Mulberry Centre. She has delivered workshops for people suffering from stress and personal image problems, enabling them to transform their perceived weakness into strengths through learning and application of the principles and tools of the Alexander Technique. She has created and delivered short courses for various Adult Community Education Centres teaching the principle of Alexander Technique and Movement Shiatsu, as well as leading regular body movement classes to enable individuals who are uncertain of their range of movement to participate in general fitness classes.
Giorgina has also worked with charities such as Turning Point, Kids Company and Cancer Research UK.
Giorgina wishes to acknowledge and thank her teachers for their generosity towards her, which has allowed her to fulfill the path she chose.
